Ryan Reynolds is in to star as Hal Jordan, a test pilot who meets a dying alien and subsequently becomes the Green Lantern, and Blake Lively will be Reynolds' love interest, Carol Ferris. Lively's involvement was just announced earlier this week.

Martin Campbell will direct the Warner Bros. film based on the DC Comics character.

The character of Hammond, kind of like the Leader in the Hulk comics, is a fellow who uses his brains and not his brawn to fight the good guys. He has psychic powers and is a genius, albeit an evil one. Sarsgaard has played a range of shady characters with depth in his career, like John Lotter in 'Boys Don't Cry'. He should do well here. We wonder if Campbell is intent on expanding the size of Hammond's brain-swelled head, like in the comic?

Fanboys on the Internet are wondering, however, if the baddie Sinestro will be in this 'Green Lantern.' Sinestro is the Green Lantern's red-skinned alien nemesis and decidedly packs a bit more punch than Hammond.

The Green Lantern' should begin shooting in March.
