So the following news definitely makes this a project to keep one eye firmly affixed to. According to Deadline Hollywood, Tom Hanks will direct Larry Crowne, an original, comedic script of his own devising with the vague premise of "a man forced to reinvent himself and find a new career as he navigates the second act of his life." Hanks will be taking on the title role, though it's unclear at this point who Roberts will be playing. Given their previous on-screen interplay, however, I think it's safe to wager she'll be playing his love interest in some capacity.
This will be Hanks' first time writing-directing something for the big screen in over a decade, the last (and only) time being 1996's That Thing You Do. No start or end date is set yet, though Hanks' long time producing partner Gary Goetzman will help see the project to fruition. That's even more good news, as Goetzman and Hanks have been integral producers on a number of outstanding projects on the small screen over the years, including From the Earth to the Moon, Band of Brothers, John Adams, and the upcoming mini-series The Pacific.
