A few tidbits left over from a pretty busy news week. While the Hollywood studios continue to stuff the summer of 2011 till it literally bursts (as of now there's no way all those films are opening up right around each other), the summer of 2012 is beginning to take shape as well. Paramount Pictures has tentatively reserved June 29, 2012 as a release date for Star Trek 2, showing they have enough faith in the franchise to open it during the much-coveted pre-July 4th weekend. Last we heard on the Star Trek 2 front, the script was still being hammered out. Most (if not all) of the cast is expected to return, though we do not know at this time if J.J. Abrams will once again direct.
Meanwhile, on a video taken backstage at the People's Choice Awards, Hugh Jackman noted that the Wolverine sequel is set to shoot in about a year to a year and a half (Jackman will be filming Real Steel first), making it so that film is also lining itself up for a summer 2012 bow. However, Wolvy won't be able to nab that early May slot since it has already been reserved by The Avengers, which is due to hit theaters on May 4th, 2012. So while we still need to get past the summers of 2010 and 2011, you now have three big films to anticipate for summer 2012.
Question is ... which one are you looking forward to the most?
