Opposite one of the genre's best young actors -- Ryan Reynolds -- Lively has been cast in the DC Comics feature 'The Green Lantern,' Variety.com reported Friday. She's traded traveling pants with her girlfriends and gossiped with the girls, and now Blake Lively is taking the next step in her career: action movie star.
Opposite one of the genre's best young actors -- Ryan Reynolds -- Lively has been cast in the DC Comics feature 'The Green Lantern,' Variety.com reported Friday.
A release date of June 17, 2011, has been planned, and Martin Campbell ('Casino Royale,' 'Edge of Darkness') will direct. TV powerhouse Greg Berlanti (executive producer on 'Brothers & Sisters,' 'Eli Stone') will write the script.
Reynolds is no stranger to physically demanding action shoots, as he packed on weight for 'Blade: Trinity,' 'Amityville Horror,' and 'X-Men Origins: Wolverine' in recent years. Besides action, Reynolds works well opposite his female co-stars, including Sandra Bullock and Betty White in 'The Proposal,' Julia Roberts in 'Fireflies in the Garden' and Abigail Breslin in 'Definitely, Maybe.'
The third season of Lively's low-rated but critically popular 'Gossip Girl' goes through May 2010. She also currently stars in the indie drama 'The Private Lives of Pippa Lee,' about a May-December romance, and next appears opposite Ben Affleck (who also directed) and Jon Hamm in the Massachusetts-set crime drama 'The Town.'
This will be a stretch for Lively, who has mostly starred in small-scale comedies such as 'The Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants 2' and 'Accepted.'
