We've seen a lot of footage from Kick-Ass already, so its first trailer doesn't have that tinge of excitement that it normally would. But this is the first time we've seen any glimpse of the actual story and its villain, Mark Strong's Frank D'Amico. It's also an exercise in editing a nice, clean trailer that the entire family can watch together. No one will have a clue what's actually in store for them.
If there's one flaw in the trailer, it's that Christopher Mintz-Plasse looks like he's just playing a cape-sporting McLovin. But I have faith that it's just the trailer selling a familiar shitck, and he'll actually be something much, much nastier. I haven't read the comic but I know that Kick-Ass and Red Mist actually team up and do some damage. He has to be able to do more than twist his own ankle. But that's a minor complaint in a trailer that promises we're going to have a fun, fun ride.
Did Mark Millar and Matthew Vaughn intend for Hit Girl and Big Daddy to steal the show? Because right now I could care less about the title hero. All I want to see is their movie. See if you agree after you watch the trailer from Yahoo Movies! that they've allowed us to embed below.
Kick-Ass hits theaters April 16, 2010.
