He may be famous as one of Hollywood's most prolific Lotharios - with his sexual conquests said to have included Isabelle Adjani, Diane Keaton and Madonna - but a new authorised biography of Warren Beatty claims the Oscar-winning actor/director has bedded almost 13,000 women.
Peter Biskind, author of Star: How Warren Beatty Seduced America, estimates that the 72-year-old star of Bonnie and Clyde and Reds had notched up this incredible figure of sexual conquests over a 35 year period and arrived at the figure by "simple arithmetic".
According to the book, Beatty lost his virginity aged 19 in 1956 and met his current wife, actress Annette Bening, on the set of Bugsy in 1991. Biskind then made the assumption that, on average, Beatty made love to one woman every day for 35 years but did rule out "daytime quickies, drive-bys, casual gropings, stolen kisses and so on" from the final figure.
Mr Biskind, who wrote the biography after lengthy conversations with the Bonnie and Clyde star, has since come up against Beatty's lawyer, Bertram Fields, who say that this "tedious book was not authorised by Mr Beatty" and also accused Biskind of writing "many false assertions".
Other alleged revelations from the book include another Beatty conquest, former Dynasty actress Joan Collins, describing the actor's 'relentless' libido as too much for her: "He never stops – it must be all those vitamins he takes."
