According to Collider.com, the sportswriter and 'Tuesdays With Morrie' author recently had Smith ('Zack and Miri Make a Porno') on his web-based show 'Mitch Albom Live' to discuss Smith's possible next film, 'Hit Somebody,' which will be cowritten by Smith and Albom and is based on a song Albom wrote for the late Warren Zevon.

The song, about a Canadian farm boy who grows up to be a bruising hockey player, struck a chord for Smith, a long-time hockey fan.

"The song it hit me at a time in my life where it was the right time," Smith told Albom. "I love story songs to begin with, and that's a total story song."

Watch Smith and Albom's Interview:

Smith remained vague on the plot particulars: humble beginnings, brawls on the ice, that kind of thing. But it's far more fun to watch the jittery, competitive, comic geek vs. jock rapport between he and Albom throughout the interview, which takes place at Joe Louis arena, home to Albom's team: the Detroit Red Wings.

In between verses of the Zevon tune, we get scenes of Albom showing off the Red Wings' 11 Stanley Cup Banners to Jersey native Smith, threatening awkwardly to break Smith's arm if he doesn't film in Detroit and pressing Smith -- no stranger to verbal sparring match himself, albeit the online kind -- about whether he had the right "flush of passion" to do the story justice.

"Its a combination of two passions of mine. Film and hockey," Smith assured him. "And a story that really hits home with me, with where I am right now in my career. Those three things together? You can't stop that movie, dude. It's the speed of the puck. It's a hundred-and-twenty miles per hour. Its gonna hit the back of the twine, I promise you."

Albom's most recent book is the memoir 'Have a Little Faith.' Smith's next film, 'Cop Out' (formerly 'A Couple of Dicks') hits theaters February 26.
