Everyone was shocked by the recent and unexpected death of actress Brittany Murphy. The star of such films as Girl, Interrupted and 8 Mile was found dead on December 20th, apparently in her bathroom. While indeed a solemn situation, what exactly does this have to do with horror?

According to E! Online, the popular DVD rental company Redbox, whose rental kiosks allow you to rent movies a day at a time and for incredibly low rates, is pulling the recently released horror film Deadline from all its locations on account of the DVD art, which features Brittany Murphy in a bathtub, presumably deceased.

Laura Dihel, a spokeswoman for Redbox had this to say about the unfortunate situation: "We are removing the box art images from our displays. We will continue to carry her film, but we will not be featuring the box art. We have 19,000 locations, and to be honest, I can't tell you if this particular art is up at all the locations."

Whether or not they manage to succeed in their endeavor is anyone's guess; however, even though I fully opposed to censorship of any sort, I can completely understand just WHY they would do something like this, as the box art certainly hits a little too close to home.

Deadline also stars Thora Birch and is distributed by First Look Home Entertainment. Special thanks to Shock Till You Drop for the heads up.
