No word yet on who the villain might be (Kanye?) but the report says that Swift -- despite having only one movie role under her belt to date, a part in the upcoming ensemble romance 'Valentine's Day' -- tops the list of young actresses currently being considered.

"A number of young stars are being mentioned for the title role in a 'Supergirl' movie and possible TV spin-off," says one industry insider, "and Taylor is top of that list. She has all the right elements to be a positive role model to young girls."

The first film, released during the height of popularity of the Christopher Reeve 'Superman' films of the '80s, starred Helen Slater in the cape and skirt. It was panned by critics and nearly ignored by the moviegoing public, but the buzz surrounding the re-boot remains optimistic. According to the insider, "Hollywood is short of female heroes and the time is right for a new Supergirl."
