TMZ reports actress Brittany Murphy died of a cardiac arrest early Sunday morning. She was 32.

A 911 call was made around 8AM from a Los Angeles home listed as belonging to her husband, Simon Monjack, where Murphy's mother discovered her unconscious in the shower. Arriving paramedics determined she was in full cardiac arrest and immediately administered CPR. They continued CPR in route to Cedars-Sinai Medical Center, but Murphy was unresponsive. TMZ and the Los Angeles Times are both reporting that the LAPD has opened an investigation into the circumstances surrounding Murphy's death. A rep for Murphy told TMZ: "In this time of sadness, the family thanks you for your love and support. It is their wish that you respect their privacy."

Brittany Murphy starred in such films as 'Sin City,' '8 Mile,' 'Girl, Interrupted' and 'Clueless.' She was also the voice of Hank and Peggy's niece, Luanne Platter, on Fox's animated comedy 'King of the Hill' for most of its 13-season run. She also had several films already in the can for 2010.
