Lionsgate is teaming up with Peter Cornwell to direct The Panopticon, a sci-fi thriller about a man who receives a mysterious call telling him the world is going to end and only he can save it.

The script was written by Craig Rosenberg (The Uninvited & Lost) and Lionsgate plans to put things into production next year. So far, the film seems to have little to do with the title; A Panopticon was a type of prison designed by Jeremy Bentham in 1785, built to allow all cells to be visible from the center of the structure. This type of prison has been featured in several films, TV shows and video games including The Chronicles of Riddick, Lost and Silent Hill. Bentham described the prison as "A new mode of obtaining power of mind over mind, in a quantity hitherto without example."

I'm not a big fan of Cornwell's after the disastrous The Haunting in Connecticut but I'm always down for sci-fi anything, even though he did shame one of my favorite actors Elias Koteas.
