Academy Unveils Original Song CandidatesThis week the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences released the 63-song list of candidates for Oscar nominations in the Best Original Song category at this year's 82nd Annual Academy Awards.

Leading the pack are two Disney creations: a princess and a pop star.

Four songs from the buzzed-about animated feature 'The Princess and The Frog' appear on this list, outdone only by five selections from 'Hannah Montana: The Movie': 'Back to Tennessee,' 'Butterfly Fly Away,' 'Don't Walk Away,' 'Hoedown Throwdown' and 'You'll Always Find Your Way Back Home.' But does that mean Miley Cyrus might be performing at the Kodak Theater in March? The chances are good. The Academy has been favorable recently towards sweeping musical numbers. Songs from 'Slumdog Millionaire' held two of the three nominations in 2008, winning for its film-ending dance number 'Jai Ho.' And though Glen Hansard and Marketa Irglova took home the gold statue in 2007 for 'Once''s 'Falling Slowly,' three of the five nominations that year were given to Disney's 'Enchanted,' which bodes well for 'The Princess and the Frog', too.

But as the Three 6 Mafia's 'It's Hard Out Here for a Pimp' proved in 2005 and Eminem's 'Lose Yourself' showed in 2002, sometimes the Academy can be a little less stuffy. So don't be surprised to see Karen O's 'All Is Love' or 'Hideaway' from 'Where the Wild Things Are' show up on the nominees list.

In spite of the love for Karen O, though, it's clear the Academy still struggles to keep up with the kids these days. For instance, this year's much anticipated 'Twilight: New Moon' soundtrack -- despite boasting a lineup featuring Death Cab for Cutie, Bon Iver, Thom Yorke and Grizzly Bear -- received only one nod for Lykke Li's 'Possibility.'

Oscar Nominations will be announced on Feb 2, 2010.
