Did you think a film about super-spy guinea pigs would be such a big hit?
Oh, I never predict such things. I always hope for the best and expect the worst. But it turned out terrific.

What was your personal take on guinea pigs before the film?
I didn't have much of a feeling on them before I became involved. I thought they were cute and cuddly and once we got more involved, they got even more cute and cuddly.

Why do you think it did so well?
I think it's always the story telling and the characters and the people fell in love with those characters. They're adorable. People love Juarez and Blaster. We had such great actors like Tracy Morgan (as Blaster) playing these parts and Hoyt Yeatman's direction, so it was a combination of wonderful characters, story, a good screenplay and a terrific director.

Any plans for a sequel?
That's up to the Walt Disney Company. Hopefully they'll embrace it. We'll see.

Do you have an idea for what the sequel would involve?
Not yet. I like to wait until they say, "Go do it," and then we'll figure it out.

Between your film, the zhu zhu pets and those Kia commercials, there's kind of a hamster/guinea pig zeitgeist going on. Do you think 'G-Force' helped make zhu zhu pets such a hot item?
I don't know. You'd have to ask them. I wish we could share in some of their revenue, that would be nice.

I hear that the 'G-Force' toys are also hot collectibles.
All I know is that they were gone off the shelves right away.

Did you get any for yourself?
I do have a set, believe it or not.

How many collectibles do you have from all the different films you've worked on?
We try to hold on to at least one representation from certain things that we've done.

What's your favorite collectible from your own movies?
I think maybe the Keith Richards doll. It's a particular favorite of mine. It's a collector's item. He didn't sign it but I have a signed photo of him with me in it.

What is your philosophy on how you choose your projects?
Do I want to see it? Is it interesting? Unique? Fresh? Would I take my kids to go see something like this? If the answer is yes, then I'll do it.

Let's talk about some of your upcoming projects. You've always got your hands full.
Yes, always one more. It's never enough. We've got 'The Sorcerer's Apprentice' with Nic Cage coming out in the middle of July and 'Prince of Persia' coming out Memorial Day. We have an exciting summer planned.

What can we expect from 'Prince of Persia?' It looks like an all-new Jake Gyllenhaal.
It's certainly buff Jake Gyllenhaal. It looks fantastic. It's a wonderful romantic adventure, a real-old fashioned movie with fantastic action and a really nice love story. It takes you into a little mythical area too. It's really a fun ride, a great summer movie.

You say it's old-fashioned. Is it reminiscent of any classic films from the past?
It has the scope of a'Lawrence of Arabia,' but certainly isn't 'Lawrence.' That's a classic. I certainly don't compare myself to the people who made that. But it has that kind of filmmaking, huge expanses, beautiful scenery.

Why did you want Jake for this part?
I just think he's a wonderful actor. He's handsome, a great romantic lead. When you see him in the picture, you won't recognize him.

Oh, I've seen the trailer.
Yeah, it looks great. The picture tested very high, especially with the women.

Do you see this as launching his action movie career?
God, I hope so. He certainly looks fantastic in it. He's got all the moves. He did a lot of hardcore (training) which shows off the very physical skill that he has.

Is there a potential for this to be a series?
Anytime we have a hit movie, and let's hope it's a hit, there's always potential.

He's an actor who's mostly been known for his indie career. Is it a hard sell to get him to do the bigger movies?
It mostly depends on the screenplay. If he likes the character and the screenplay, you've got him. He's very particular and very smart about his career and we got lucky that he responded to the picture.

What can you tell me about 'Sorcerer's Apprentice?'
It stars Nic Cage. We've made a lot of movies with him, I love him. He plays a sorcerer who has to find an apprentice and Jay Baruchel ('Night at the Museum: Battle of the Smithsonian') plays the apprentice. It's loosely based on the concept of 'Fantasia.' Or rather, I should say, "inspired by."

Will the live film be darker?
If you look at the sequence from 'Fantasia,' it's actually quite dark. So I don't think we're going to go quite that dark.

Why do you like working with Nicolas Cage so much?
He's just like the everyday guy. He's got the humor and he can scare you. He's just a wonderful actor. He's an Academy Award-winning actor. What more could you want?

And you've got another 'National Treasure' in the works?
Yes, we're working on another 'National Treasure.' Hopefully that'll come together. We've got a ton of projects, you never know what will rise to the surface.

What's the concept for the third film?
We're working it out right now. That's our life. Get back to me in a year or so.

Have those movies inspired more people to check out museums and history books?
Yes. A lot of schools show it to their history classes. So we not only entertain them, but they also learn, which is the real trick.

What's the latest with the next 'Pirates' film?
We're working on it. We hope to start the next one in June, if everything goes well. It's got an excellent script.

Who all is coming back?
We're just going through the process of writing the screenplay, so we'll see.

So no one is signed right now?
We have a deal with Johnny Depp, of course.

What can you tell me about the plot?
It's called 'Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides' and it's about finding the fountain of youth.

Where will it be set?
We don't know yet. We're scouting locations as we speak. It'll be someplace warm, I promise you that. Sometimes too warm. We'll be there this summer.

What would you say your filmmaking legacy is, so far?
You tell me! We just do what we do and have fun doing it. Hopefully we'll be remembered as story tellers and people who made a difference in a couple hours of the audience's time and made them feel better. That would be nice.
