Smash Cut looks at the filmmaking industry through a satirical eye The story centers around Able Whitman (David Hess), a horror film director who can't seem to cut it with the critics. He decides to take matters into his own hands--murdering and using body parts as props in his new films. Enter reporter April Carson (Sasha Grey) and private detective Isaac Beaumonde (Jesse Buck) who try to dodge the maniacal director while trying to save the day.
The film was inspired by the work of exploitation splatterholic Herschell Gordon Lewis. Lewis' films like Blood Feast and Two Thousand Maniacs! caused a stir in the 60's with full-color, gory details and taboo subjects. Lewis screened his newest (incomplete) work this October, The Uh! Oh! Show, about contestants on a game show who lose a limb for every wrong answer. Expect a limited theatrical release and DVD sometime in 2010.
