According to Zap2it, the announcement was made by Philip Berk, president of the HPPA, at a Golden Globes Salute Young Hollywood party held at Nobu restaurant in Los Angeles on Tue., Dec. 8. Traditionally, the post is bestowed upon the daughter (or occasionally the son) of a celebrity. Dern, for example, is the daughter of actor Bruce Dern and actress Diane Ladd.

Miss Golden Globe may be a largely ceremonial honor, but it does require one vital function: "assisting" during the Golden Globe Awards ceremony, which really means holding the award to be given to the winner in each category. The 67th Annual Golden Globes are scheduled for Hollywood on Sun., Jan. 17, 2010, with Ricky Gervais hosting.

Per the Dishrag blog, Spencer, who is an accomplished equestrian and model and will take up her undergraduate acting studies at Columbia University next fall, delivered a short and gracious thank you, noting how much it means "as a young person to be a part of something with such a rich history." Mother Alfre was proud.
