'Iron Man 2' poster offers War Machine first lookThe anticipation for the Summer 2010 movie season has officially begun with the release of the first 'Iron Man 2' poster!

The superhero sequel's new one-sheet features not only Tony Stark in his suit of choice but also our first good look at War Machine, the alter ego of Stark's pal James 'Rhodey' Rhodes (Don Cheadle, replacing Terrence Howard from the first movie). We actually caught a brief glimpse of the War Machine suit in the first 'Iron Man,' a sight which prompted Rhodes to quip, "Next time." Guess what? It's next time! 'Iron Man 2' poster

As expected, the War Machine suit looks pretty great. And it should -- apparently, a lot of 'Iron Man 2' focuses on Rhodes and his "transformation" into War Machine after Stark's alcoholism takes a turn for the worse (the first sequel for a superhero movie almost always goes darker, and 'Iron Man 2' looks to be no exception).

It will be wonderful to see Robert Downey Jr. go deeper into his character now that the origin story is out of the way, and he's surrounded by a great supporting cast: Gwyneth Paltrow, Samuel L. Jackson and director Jon Favreau all reprise their roles from the original film, and new cast members include Scarlett Johansson as Natasha Romanoff/Black Widow, Mickey Rourke as the villainous Ivan Vanko/Whiplash and Favreau's 'Made' pal Sam Rockwell as Stark's rival, Justin Hammer. (Bet you forgot Sam Rockwell was in 'Made' -- he was the bellhop at Favreau and Vince Vaughn's New York hotel.)

So yes, all looks to be well with 'Iron Man 2,' opening May 7, 2010. Could do without that '2' on the poster, though -- it's a bad habit of the Marvel marketing team, just putting the number of whatever sequel it may be and hoping any and all iconic imagery or font on the poster will fill in the rest. It usually does, of course, but still ... the movie isn't called '2,' guys.

Anyway. War Machine!
