After the record-shattering advance ticket sales, the camp outs in front of the theaters, and enough media hype to raise the undead, the Twilight Saga's highly-anticipated second film 'New Moon' has finally been released. And it was only a matter of time before the comments of the Twihards who braved the cold and the crowds to attend the midnight (and later) screenings came pouring in.

Initial reactions have, predictably, been positive, with liberal exclamation point usage. "Most amazing movie ever," raved one viewer. "A must see movie .. I give it the full 5 stars!" exclaimed another. Viewers were pleased that 'New Moon,' starring Robert Pattinson, Kristen Stewart, and Taylor Lautner, and directed by Chris Weitz, hewed closely to author Stephenie Meyer's original source material and felt this movie far outshone its 'Twilight' predecessor. "It kept very close to the book," reported one. "Kristen and Taylor really brought Bella and Jacob to life. ... Oh, and it was funny too!" Said another: "the way the director made Edward a fade image was just [how] I imagined it when i read the books."

There was the requisite cheering for their professed camp of choice ("Team Edward all the way!"), and props were given to Lautner's newly-sculpted chest. And it also generated excitement for the saga's next film. Exclaimed one: "Of course it left me hanging for 'Eclipse'."

Here's a sampling of what was seen on Friday's message boards:

"'New Moon' was SUCH A GREAT MOVIE! ... After reading the book, I figured the movie would be really sad, but I loved how it was light-hearted and actually quite funny in some parts. The acting was so much better than in 'Twilight,' the special effects were AMAZING, the soundtrack was great, it was super close to the book, and the ending was awesome! 'New Moon' was just an all around OUTSTANDING movie! I can't wait for 'Eclipse'!"
"This movie was so great! I saw it at midnight and I was so happy with it. It kept AMAZINGLY CLOSE to the book! And it cut out the boring parts of the book. This book I'll be honest, I hated it. but the movie was SO GREAT! 100 times better than 'Twilight.'Chris Weitz did a wonderful job and I wish he was directing the rest of the movies! I am so glad they kept so close to the book, the movie tore at my emotions just like it did when I read it. AMAZING! Everyone needs to go see it!"
"AMILLION times better than the book! ... They cut out all the boring repetitiveness and made it into the movie of the year. LOVED."
"SOOOOOOOOOO much better than the first movie. Chris Weitz was the better director. He captured the story, the emotion, the sparkles and was easy to follow for those who didn't read the books. I didn't need to explain it too my mom this time. Great action and better computer graphics. Taylor and Rob did awesome, Kristen was a bit better but still can't act out her emotions well. 2 thumbs up."
"So much better than 'Twilight' in every way ... The movie went along with the book and didn't leave anything important out! It was my favorite book and Kristen Stewart, Robert Pattinson, and Taylor Lautner did a fabulous job. Taylor nailed Jacob's character, funny, sweet, protector ... all of it. As usual, Rob was perfection ... It was FANTASTIC! I'll be seeing it again!"
"The new director did a great job in keeping with the book and added some great lines as well. Screw the critics because they aren't 'real' people anyway. Great movie!!!!!"
"A perfect movie for all fans who have read the book! 'New Moon' stays true to heart to the story line and feel of the second installment. A bigger budget and better director escalates this film beyond its predecessor, not to mention the introduction of a fascinating pack of wild animals ... ooops did I let the 'wolf out of the bag?'"

Were you at a midnight (or later) screening? What did you think?
