Owen Wilson has signed on as the voice of 'Marmaduke' in Fox's live action/CGI adaptation of the long-running comic strip about a slobbering Great Dane who has a knack for getting into trouble.

The casting of Wilson, who has a history doing voice-overs ('Cars,' 'The Fantastic Mr. Fox') and dealing with dogs ('Marley & Me'), finishes the lineup for the family comedy, which is scheduled for a June 4, 2010, release. Judy Greer, Lee Pace and William H. Macy play the humans, while Fergie, Emma Stone, George Lopez, Christopher Mintz-Plasse, Steve Coogan, Damon Wayans and Marlon Wayans supply voices.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, the story line travels a well-worn path: Marmaduke navigates a volatile mutts vs. pedigrees turf war, woos the purebred of his dreams and overcomes a fall from grace. Sound familiar?

Fox is the go-to studio for anthropomorphic animals: They're the force behind 'Garfield' and 'Alvin and the Chipmunks,' two kids films that drove parents crazy with their inanity but made oodles at the box office.

But do we really need another talking, trouble-prone pet tearing up the big screen? The original Dr. Doolittle (also from Fox) is turning over in his grave.
