Neill BlomkampFans of 'District 9' will be happy to hear that director Neill Blomkamp isn't resting on the laurels of his critically acclaimed debut. The South African-born filmmaker has already committed to his next sci-fi project set to begin production in mid-2010.

According to Variety, Media Rights Capital (MRC), the film, television and digital studio overseeing the project, is set to give Blomkamp creative freedom on the film. "MRC is letting me make the film I want to make, and that is by far the most important thing here," Blomkamp said. "The film will hopefully be commercial, but it is very much a singular film, (one) that comes directly from me." No distributor has been announced as of yet, but MRC announced they will start shopping the film around once production begins. The upcoming film, which Blomkamp will immediately start work on, will cost less than most sci-fi blockbusters, but more than 'District 9''s relatively low $30 million budget. That film has grossed over $115 million since its August release.
