Filmmaker Ridley Scott and Fox 2000 are in talks with Angelina Jolie about taking on the role of Patrizia Reggiano, who was sentenced to 29 years in prison for plotting to kill Gucci fashion dynasty head Maurizio Gucci, in the drama aptly entitled 'Gucci.'

According to Variety, 'Gucci' tracks the family-owned dynasty's halcyon era of the 1970s and 1980s, a glamorous period when the fashion business was moving $500 million in clothes, handbags and assorted product a year. It's currently on the fast track at Fox 2000.

With the script still in development, Scott is looking to find his male lead – and he has approached none other than Leonardo DiCaprio, who starred in Scott's thriller 'Body of Lies' last year. However, DiCaprio has not yet signed on to play Maurizio, the grandson of founder Guccio Gucci, who emerged on top following a fierce power struggle but was subsequently gunned down in front of his Milan apartment in 1995, just after re-establishing momentum for Gucci with the addition of a Tom Ford fashion line.

For Jolie's part, she has already signed on with Fox 2000 for an adaptation of Patricia Cornwell's 'Dr. Kay Scarpetta' novel series. And she's also set to star alongside Sam Worthington in the Spyglass Entertainment thriller 'The Tourist,' which is scheduled to start production next year.

Scott is currently in post-production on the Russell-Crowe-Cate Blanchett starrer 'Robin Hood' for Universal. He's also in talks with Sony about doing an American feature-film version of the U.K. serial-kidnapper miniseries 'Red Riding.'
