In a lengthy interview with The Hollywood Reporter, 'The Twilight Saga: New Moon' director Chris Weitz denied rumors that he has been asked to helm the fourth film in the franchise, 'Breaking Dawn.'

"No official offer has been made," he told the Reporter. "The fans have been enthusiastic about the footage and the trailer, and the studio responds to that by feeling good about me. We'll have to see how people feel about the entire movie, not only the studio but the fans, before the verdict is out whether I direct Number 4." Earlier this year, rumors swirled around the Internet and the Hollywood trades that Summit Entertainment, which is producing and releasing the 'Twilight' films, had tapped Spanish director Juan Antonio Bayona to direct the third film, 'Eclipse,' but that was proved false when David Slade, who guided the successful '30 Days of Night' in 2007, took on the task.

Writer-producer Weitz, who was the invisible hand behind brother Paul's 'American Pie' and went on to direct and write 'The Golden Compass,' had praise for Slade, telling the Reporter, "David Slade is doing a great job on the third film, and by the time that comes out, he'll be the flavor of the moment."

'The Twilight Saga: New Moon' opens Nov. 20 and fans may well decide who goes on to take a bite out of the fourth episode.
