'The Big Chill' Cast: Where Are They Now?

Tom Berenger is a great American actor and has done a lot since the Big Chill. I know that after the 80's and early 90's, he was in some bad films but that happened to other great actors. I have seen Gene Hackman in some embarrassing roles! But, considering Tom Berenger's work overall as an actor, his breadth is incredible. His work is convincing and he always has a big authentic presence, including an uncanny, intuitive ability to transform himself and use small gestures, vocal intonations, and body language so that acting is never visible. He speaks Italian and Spanish fluently and is a true history buff. His work as a whole showcases a unique portrayal of masculinity as a combination of sensitivity and testosterone.... and this he has done better than any other actor.

Tom Berenger is unusual in his individualism and his abiding interest in history (see One Man's Hero, Rough Riders, and Johnson County Wars). He HAS wanted to own his life and his career has probably suffered as a result. His excellent films include: Betrayed, Platoon, At Play in the Fields of the Lord (Did you know that he was the first actor in the history of film to embrace full frontal nudity for most of the film in order to authentically portray the life of indigenous people), Someone to Watch Over Me, and The Field.

I met Jeff Goldblum once at a picnic. He is one of the nicest and down to earth celebrities you could possibly know. (not to say how handsome}. He used to be married to a neighbor of mine.Thats how I met him....

I absolutely LOVED The Big Chill--watched it so many times had to buy another tape, listened to the soundtrack so much it wore out too. I can lip-sync to most of the film, and actually went to South Carolina but never saw the actual house.
I wish they would have done a ten years later sequel, like did Meg have Harolds baby, did Nick and Chloe stay together, that sort of theing

I have a thought on this movie. Taking a guess, I think I know why it is that the Big Chill characters were all white upper middle class (not that it really matters).
These people started out being sheltered by their university and it's liberal ideals simply because they had the financial protection to do so. We blue-collar workers (as well as much of the inner-city folk and those of us with autism-spectrum disorders, among others) could not afford that kind of life. Unlike the movie's cast, we working-class people never received the cold shock of suddenly realizing what the real world was like, because we've ALWAYS been in the harsh cold world. We seldom had much of a shelter; cold and harsh is just another day at the office for us.
I think that's why a "Big Chill" storyline would probably not work out too well for us blue-collar workers. In the movie, Karens conservative husband Richard illustrates this point perfectly in his "midnight snack" speech, and wraps it up nicely by saying "Nobody ever said it would be fun. Well, at least no one ever said it to me".

The Big Chill remains one of my 4 favorite movies. It is magnificent at showing a group who were friends at college coming together at the funeral of one of their friends, just 10-15 years later. Kasdan, and every actor in it, deserve great credit.
That Meg Tilly-- so lovely-- didn't have much of a casreer afterwards, simply shocks me.

Haven't been a finatic about movie going to busy living life.Took my 12 yr old daughter to view BreakfastClub yrs ago.Glad about that,few movie efforts are truley worthwhile.Costner and Speilburg flicks have always been extraordinary tho.The Big Chill didn't impact me until my later years.As much as life 'changed' it stays the 'same'.My Parents are gone now,and movies became a greater passtime now.Maybe saved all those thousands for a later life 'event'.I've moved away from the Calif culture,and it really seems there is life after Calif. but it is often what we experience in life that stays with us throughout it,and the older you become the less we know.Or is it the more we learn, the less we know???

The "Big Chill" was in my opinion the coolest movie of all time!My second favorite was "Beverly Hills Cops with Eddie Murphy.
