ABC's FlashForward, possibly the most anticipated new show of the fall, premieres tonight at 8 p.m. Despite producer David Goyer's claim that FlashForward is "not a science fiction show," tonight's premiere introduces us to a premise that's heavily steeped in the world of sci-fi: What would happen if everyone on Earth blacked out simultaneously for more than two minutes and experienced visions of the future?
The show, based on the Robert J. Sawyer novel of the same name, features a large and diverse cast of characters trying to make sense of the blackout experience. The first act of the premiere, embedded after the jump, is a tense and gripping start for what promises to be one of the richest and most complex new shows of the fall.

Is FlashForward the next Lost? Despite certain similarities – including a large cast, an unexplainable event that affects the characters' lives, the casting of Dominic Monaghan and Sonya Walger – its producers claim that FlashForward is an entirely different beast, and it shouldn't be compared to J.J. Abram's hit ABC drama.
I think the real question some of us might want answered here is: Does FlashForward have the potential to become a cultural phenomenon, like Lost? We just might get our answer tonight.
