We catch up with the stars of our favorite '80s teen flick.

It's been 25 years since John Hughes broke out as the go-to teen-flick auteur of the Me Decade, with his first directorial effort, the achingly romantic -- and uproariously hilarious -- 'Sixteen Candles' (1984). Remember when Molly Ringwald was the teen queen in all her quirky glory, Anthony Michael Hall was a skinny geek ... and John Cusack was a bit player who played "friend of geek"?

We're painfully aware that we're not in high school anymore; heck, Ringwald now plays the mother of a teen, in case we needed any greater reminder that we're all grown up. Which 'Candles' alum has gone into hiding, which quit the biz entirely (there's more than one) ... and which went on to two Oscar noms? Sixteen Candles': Where Are They Now?

    Molly Ringwald

    Played: Samantha Baker

Then: The daughter of blind jazz pianist Bob Ringwald, a 6-year-old Molly released a record but didn't find her niche till her breakout role 10 years later, in 'Sixteen Candles.' Her Sam was the quiet girl whose birthday her family forgot, but who -- miraculously -- got the cute boy in the end. Ringwald followed with cult classics 'The Breakfast Club' and 'Pretty in Pink'; audiences were enthralled with the awkward, freckle-faced redhead (as was director John Hughes).

    Molly Ringwald

    Played: Samantha Baker

Now: A founding member of the Brat Pack, Ringwald rode a wave of popularity with the likes of Demi Moore, Rob Lowe and Emilio Estevez. She reportedly turned down lead roles in 'Pretty Woman' and 'Ghost' and bared all with a nude scene in 1995's 'Malicious' before moving to France in the '90s. Now Ringwald's enjoying a bit of an 'American' comeback, with her role in the ABC Family show 'The Secret Life of the American Teenager.' She has a daughter and is expecting twins with her husband, writer and book editor Panio Gianopoulos.

    John Hughes

    Director/Writer

Then: 'Sixteen Candles' launched Hughes' massive career, making him one of the most successful directors of the '80s and '90s. Think an '80s version of today's Judd Apatow. At the time 'Sixteen Candles' was released, Hughes had already tasted stardom with writing creds in the National Lampoon franchise flicks 'Animal House' and 'Vacation.' Once 'Sixteen' hit big a flurry of hits followed, including 'Ferris Bueller's Day Off,' 'The Breakfast Club,' 'Weird Science' and 'Planes, Trains & Automobiles.'

Now: There's no denying Hughes' influence on today's comedic giants, though the director went on to tamer humor, with family-friendly flicks like the massively successful 'Home Alone' franchise, 'Beethoven,' '101 Dalmations' and 2001's 'Just Visiting.' Since then, Hughes has been photographed only once. His Salinger-esque existence has inspired a documentary that follows a group's journey to locate him: 'Don't You Forget About Me,' currently in production.

    Justin Henry

    Played: Mike Baker

Then: Samantha's pesky, know-it-all little brother Mike serves up some classic bits, including his two cents on Ginny's monthly visitor -- "Should be an interesting honeymoon, eh?" You'd never guess he was the only Oscar-nominated actor (at the time) in the cast. But it's true -- he had earned an Academy nod with his role as Dustin Hoffman and Meryl Streep's son, Billy, in 1979's 'Kramer vs. Kramer.'

Now: After small parts throughout the years including stints on 'ER' and a role in the 2007 comedy 'The Junior Defenders,' Henry made a steady transition into the world of media. He now serves as the Regional Director of Sales for Veoh.

    Michael Schoeffling

    Played: Jake Ryan

Then: Discovered shortly after a GQ modeling spread, heartthrob Schoeffling was cast to play Samantha Baker's crush, Jake, an uncharacteristically genuine high school star athlete who dumps his hot-stuff girlfriend, Caroline, to romance Sam. In other words, he's the too-good-to-be-true hunk who's a dream come true for every teen girl alive. Sigh.

    Michael Schoeffling

    Played: Jake Ryan

Now: A few roles followed, including one in 'Mermaids,' as Winona Ryder's love interest, and bombs like 'Let's Get Harry' (1986) and 'Wild Hearts Can't Be Broken' (1989). The string of mediocre films convinced Schoeffling to retire from acting. He now owns a furniture manufacturing company and lives in Pennsylvania with his family, former model Valerie Robinson and two teen children. We wonder if his wife gets the Samantha Baker treatment on her birthday every year. We're still dreaming.

    Anthony Michael Hall

    Played: The Geek

Then: His squeaky-voiced, relentless character, Farmer Ted, chased after Samantha and followed through with his sleazy "panty" bet. His name is synonymous with "geek," but Hall laughed all the way to the bank with roles in some of the biggest flicks of the '80s including 'The Breakfast Club' and 'Weird Science.'

    Anthony Michael Hall

    Played: The Geek

Now: Hard-partying ways led Hall down a bad path on the heels of his success. After a short break in the late '80s, he returned to the big screen in Tim Burton's 1990 film, 'Edward Scissorhands,' in his first role as a meaty jock (the skinny boy had filled out). Hall had a career resurgence in the late '90s after portraying Bill Gates in the acclaimed telepic 'Pirates of Silicon Valley.' He later took the lead in USA Network's hit series 'The Dead Zone.' In '08 he appeared in the box office smash 'The Dark Knight.'
