'Transformers' starlet is transforming her career ...

To many, Megan Fox is simply "that insanely hot chick from the 'Transformers' movies" -- but with the news this morning that she'll play a drug mule in the Screen Gems thriller 'The Crossing' it's becoming increasingly evident that the 22-year-old starlet has no intention of being pigeonholed.

In fact, thanks to a recent spate of parts in films that vary widely in theme and genre, Fox is turning her once one-note resume into something quite respectable ... impressive even. Here's how the 'Transformers' knockout is transforming her career.

After reprising her role as Shia LaBeouf's sidekick/lover in a little summer indie called 'Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen,' Fox takes her first crack at headlining a movie as the titular demon-possessed cheerleader in September's Diablo Cody-penned horror-comedy 'Jennifer's Body.' Sure, the title -- and a reported skinny-dipping scene -- doesn't do much to take the focus off of Fox's much-ballyhooed physical assets, but playing a flesh-munching baddie is definitely a change of pace from what she's shown audiences thus far.

Fox will then further please the fanboys who love her ever so much for 'Transformers' with two very cool -- and very different -- comic-book adaptations. She'll play a sexy gunslinger and Josh Brolin's love interest in the neo-Western actioner 'Jonah Hex.' And then she'll star as an amnesiac aquatic humanoid with crazy powers over water in 'Fathom.' That's what they call an, um, water-logged dream.

But perhaps the most interesting project on Fox's plate is the indie period drama 'Passion Plays,' in which she'll portray a carnival angel (yes, she'll sport wings and all) who's rescued from gangsters by down-on-his-luck trumpet player Mickey Rourke in 1950s Los Angeles. Could our interest be more piqued? Not a chance.
