Elle Fanning"I like the scenes where you do things you probably wouldn't do in your real house -- where you flip over food or something."

Elle Fanning is just your average over-achieving 10-year-old girl. She loves Spanish class and hip-hop dancing, running a 7:53 mile to score top marks in her school's Presidential Fitness Challenge and watching movies such as 'The Devil Wears Prada' (her favorite ever) and 'Coraline' (her favorite this year).

Oh yeah, and she's also an acting wunderkind whose already hefty resume boasts two Brad Pitt films, multiple outings playing the younger version of big sis Dakota and a heartbreaking turn as a troubled girl in search of acceptance in 'Phoebe in Wonderland.'

Elle dishes on why she flips over food on movie sets, talks about her love of Meryl Streep and hatred of raw fish -- and reveals whether the Fanning sisters plan to join forces on the big screen anytime soon.

1. How did you prepare for your role in 'Phoebe,' and what's your best memory from the shoot?

First I met with [writer-director] Daniel [Barnz], and we talked about Phoebe and everything. And then I met with some kids that sort of had different issues. Then, after I was talking to them, I realized that we're all the same, and we all have issues. They really helped me to figure out who Phoebe was. [My best memory] was the one scene where I got to sing and dance with all the kids, and we were all up on stage. And the choreographer of the dance, she is my dance teacher today. I met her on the movie, and she was just so great and so nice. So then I wanted to get some dance lessons because I love dancing, so we called her and she said that was great. So now I think I have a lesson today. I do after-school ballet and also hip-hop and jazz.

2. Which actors or actresses do you look up to?

Well, of course, my sister. She'll always be first. I like Jodie Foster and then Meryl Streep. They're just like the greatest ever.

3. So any chance we'll be seeing you and Dakota in a movie together soon?

Not right now, but I hope so. If I got to be in a movie with her that'd be great. It'd be so fun. ... The only time we sort of talk about movies is the experiences we had on the set, about people we met or things we did, like the food -- the catering [laughs]. I love the chicken and the fish [from the craft services table]. I'm a big fish eater. Salmon -- I love salmon. My sister loves Chinese food and sushi and all that. I'm not as big of a fan, but she likes it so we eat it a lot. So I'm beginning to like it more. I don't like the raw sushi. I liked the cooked crab and lobster and everything.

4. What's your favorite thing about acting?

I like, you know, the scenes where you do things you probably wouldn't do in your real house -- where you flip over food or something. I would never do that at home, but in a movie you can do all that [laughs]. I also like to see the wardrobe, to see what I'm wearing, the type of character, the name, everything -- everything's all wrapped up. I also like all the makeup. And also I get to meet all these different people that I never would have if I didn't do acting.

5. Is acting something you want to do forever, or could you see yourself in another career later in life?

I'll always have acting. But then if I had to choose something else it'd probably be singing or dancing -- if I had to. Or maybe like designer, like sketching designs. I love designing and I love vintage clothes. 1950s is my favorite. I go to all the little markets with the vintage clothes and I pick out stuff. I have a lot of dresses and shoes from that era and I do wear them out. They're so neat. I love it. I just like that I'm wearing something unique that no one else will have.
