On the one hand, it's yet another goofy, retro Will Ferrell movie, and yet another W.F. sports movie. But as Scott said in his review, "it's really tough to complain when a comedian doles out "the same old shtick" when that same old shtick is still pretty damn funny." In fact, he goes on to say: "I happen to think Semi-Pro is Ferrell's best sports flick yet -- and probably his most consistently amusing movie since Anchorman: The Legend of Ron Burgundy."
The ABA, or American Basketball Association, is deteriorating, so NBA benchwarmer Jackie Moon (Ferrell) heads to Flint, MI to shape up his old team for the playoffs, and to make it a successful team for the upcoming NBA absorption. It's also set in the '70s, hence the Semi-Pro fro.
This flick gets the 2-DVD treatment, so there's a lot of extras to enjoy on the second disc: deleted/alternate scenes, 6 behind-the-scenes featurettes ranging from "Recreating the ABA" to discussions about location and production, and this is all topped off with a music video, short comedic interviews, and Semi-Pro trailers from the teaser to the red-band variety.

Dirty Harry Ultimate Collector's Edition
It's a pretty quiet week for mainstream DVD releases, but even if it wasn't, I'd have a hard time not including Dirty Harry this week.
For a while, before I'd seen Dirty Harry for myself, I'd somehow confused it with The Good, The Bad, and The Ugly -- that is, until it popped up on television. It took a moment to realize that there were no cowboys, and then I was completely sucked in. This is one of those flicks that might be old, but age doesn't tarnish its greatness. Clint Eastwood pulls off Insp. Harry Callahan's anti-hero ways like a second skin and knows how to deliver just the right amount of justice to unlucky punks.
But the really important thing here is what makes this release the "Ultimate." In the added perks department, you get a 42-page hardcover book, a bonus, feature-length doc called Clint Eastwood: Out of the Shadows, a replica of Calahan's wallet -- with badge, reproduction lobby poster cards, a map detailing Harry's hunt for the killer, and correspondence.
The on-disc movie perks aren't too shabby either. Each film has an audio commentary with directors, cinematographers, producers -- with Dirty Harry including Eastwood into the mix. But there are also a ton of featurettes, galleries, and even unexpected perks like the '93 TV special Clint Eastwood: The Man from Malpaso.
