Every day you sit down at your computer, salivating in anxious, twitch-ridden hope -- you pray to all that is holy that this will be the day you get the news. What news, pray tell? The next National Lampoon's flick, of course. The magazine might be long dead, but the movies, they keep coming. They started off really strong -- you can't beat the likes of Animal House, and then there's all those Vacation pics that Patrick Walsh recently retro-reviewed. Now, after the likes of Bag Boy, Ratko, and Homo Erectus, we're getting a 300 spoof. National Lampoon's 301: The Legend of Awesomest Maximus Wallace Leonidas was first brought to our attention by Erik Davis in June, and now we've got a star.

Variety reports that Kevin Dillon, brother to Matt and co-star of Entourage, has been tapped to lead the film as "the bumbling Spartan general who fails upward in his quest for greatness." Spoofing the likes of 300, Troy, Gladiator, and Braveheart, 301 will give Dillon and Entourage fans the chance to see life mimic art -- his character had spent time on a period cult series called Viking Quest. Lampoon's Justin Kanew says: "Kevin is perfect for this role." So Dillon is perfect, but is this a perfectly wonderful idea, or a perfect waste of time? Films with "National Lampoon's" in the title have never been consistent, so we'll have to wait and see.
