I don't find it strange in the least that I'm a fan of movies where an iconic hero takes matters into his own hands and seeks revenge, all while blowing the crap out of several people, cars, buildings, etc. and also a fan of somewhat sappy romantic musicals where the protagonist expresses his conflict, not with violence, but instead with song and perhaps some dancing as well. I'm comfortable with the contradiction. That said, it should come as no surprise that I enjoy the films of director Baz Luhrmann.

Over the years, Luhrmann has brought us some pretty interesting and entertaining films. So when I heard about his next project, the sprawling epic Australia starring Nicole Kidman and Hugh Jackman, I was very interested, but did have a few reservations. When Cinematical first told you about the film, we had some casting news and some plot details. Next, I got into the act and provided some new pics from the film for your enjoyment -- especially a couple featuring Hugh Jackman being manly while walking and talking. Now, thanks to the magic of the Internet and the folks at The Daily Telegraph, we can add an exclusive first pic of the film's fetching female lead to our growing trove of knowledge.

As interested as I was to see the new pic, in the end, it was somewhat underwhelming. I went in hoping for a little more but had to be content, for the moment, with a close-up of Kidman deep into her portrayal of Lady Ashley, her character in the film. Granted, she looks great but I was just hoping for a little more detail. As its still very early in the process, I'm sure we'll be seeing much more of this kind of thing as production gets rolling. And, of course, as more details, photos, videos or whatever emerges, we'll bring it to you right here at Cinematical.
