While it certainly feels like a direct-to-DVD version of My Best Friend's Wedding 2, this one is called Made of Honor and Columbia Pictures will toss it into a theater near you sometime next year. Now that Patrick Dempsey's career has been revived on the Grey's Anatomy operating table, he'll be starring alongside newly casted Michelle Monaghan. Directed by Paul Weiland and based on an "original" script by Adam Sztykiel, pic starts shooting this April.

I shouldn't even need to tell you the plot for Made of Honor; basically, take My Best Friend's Wedding and switch the roles. Dempsey plays a hot-to-trot bachelor whose long-time platonic best friend (Monaghan) decides it's time to settle down and get engaged. When she asks her buddy to be her "maid" of honor, he accepts ... but only so he can somehow win her back over. Monaghan, who will be playing the "other woman" in another marriage-themed comedy The Heartbreak Kid, is the kind of actress who looks great, but hasn't yet managed to escape her comfort zone. Pretty, familiar -- the perfect girl to throw in a romantic comedy or an action adventure -- but that's about all. We're still waiting for Monaghan to play some cracked-out prostitute in a low-budget indie flick -- now, that's when we'll really be able to see if she has what it takes.
