What I have to share with you is casting news so shocking, that you should be sitting down to read it: Dennis Hopper is in negotiations to take on a role as a mob boss! The role comes by way of Stephen King's short story, Dolan's Cadillac, which was published in his collection of short stories -- Nightmares and Dreamscapes. Years ago, this was to be a feature starring Kevin Bacon and Sylvester Stallone. While this has been a long time in coming, it seems worth it to move up the mob food chain. (Sorry, Sly. You're a great Balboa, but Hopper is a better mobster choice.)

Production Weekly has published the news, but there is no word if this is the same script from the Bacony Sly days. More news, however, should follow soon, as production should begin in April. If you haven't gotten around to reading the short story, here's a brief synopsis: Robinson is a teacher whose wife witnesses Dolan kill someone in the desert. She's killed by the mobster before she has a chance to testify against him, which inspires the widower to retaliate. What follows is an elaborate plan of revenge that centers on Dolan and his silver Cadillac.

So, we've got Dolan almost taken care of with Dennis Hopper, but who should be cast in the other parts? Will Kevin Bacon once again look into playing the troubled teacher? Who would be his wife? Maybe Virginia Madsen? She has that soft-eyed teacherly look. Personally, I'd be happy if Michael Wincott could once again get some bad-guy action. There's a few henchman roles to fill.
