Erik reported the other day about the possibly likely tongue-in-cheek open letter (you may recall that a hit man, and payment of Steely Dan merchandise figured prominently in said letter) from Donald Fagen and Walter Becker of Steely Dan, accusing Owen Wilson of ripping off their song, Cousin Dupree, for the plot of his new comedy You, Me and Dupree. Well, Wilson has responded, and I'm thrilled to report that he has a firm grasp of the absurd, not to mention an actual, very possibly intelligent, sense of humor. The entire text of his statement is as follows: "I have never heard the song Cousin Dupree and I don't even know who this gentleman, Mr. Steely Dan, is. I hope this helps to clear things up and I can get back to concentrating on my new movie, HEY 19 [sic]." Dammit. Just when I had decided, once and for all, that Luke was my preferred Wilson brother, Owen goes and pulls something like this. Damn him for being witty. Damn him to hell!
