Mark CubanFrench director - and possible Die Hard 4 helmer - Luc Besson's futuristic thriller District 13 (Besson wrote and produced the film, which was directed by Pierre Morel) has been picked up for US distribution by the independent Magnolia Pictures. While it's nice to know that the film, about "an undercover cop and a former hood try to infiltrate a gang militia to defuse a neutron bomb" in 2010 France, will be appearing on our shores eventually, what makes this acquisition particularly interesting is that Magnolia is a branch of Mark Cuban's 2929 Entertainment. Since Cuban has been talking quite a bit recently about simultaneous DVD and theatrical releases, one wonders if soon we will be able to buy Magnolia films - including District 13 - on the same day that they first appear in theaters.
