The PromiseAnd when I say massive, I mean massive - 11 full minutes of gorgeous insanity. Chen Kaige, best known in the US for the Oscar-nominated Farewell My Concubine, is the man behind The Promise, the most expensive Chinese film ever made, and that country's entry into Oscar's Best Foreign Film pool. The movie is reportedly a myth-based action-fantasy-romance which, while being impossibly vague, also means that pretty much anything can happen. And based on the trailer, it does - I still have no idea what actually happens in the movie, but it's packed with stunning visual images, outrageous use of color, and the balletic, impossible action sequences that were so striking in Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon. Word is that when this trailer was screened at Cannes, it received a standing ovation - I'd say that alone makes it worth the download time.
