Not to be outdone by Star Trek’s geek culture movie homage Free Enterprise, Star Wars now has a fan boy centered movie in the works, aptly titled Fan Boy. Cinescape is reporting that The Weinstein Co. is closing a deal to pick up Adam F. Goldberg and Ernest Cline's script based on a group of young Star Wars fans who attempt to take their dying buddy to Skywalker Ranch so that he can watch the movies in their perfect surroundings before he dies. Dan Fogler is apparently cast to star, while Kyle Mann will be tapped to direct. Kevin Spacey, Dana Brunetti, Evan Astrowsky and Matthew Perniciaro will produce.

I don’t know how I feel about this announcement. I am a long time Star Wars fan and generally enjoy laughing at the antics of wacky fan boys, but I’m not sure if I can stomach an entire movie full of it. If I had to codify my current feelings, I’d say I was “cautiously optimistic.” You?
