The latest installment of the Harry Potter series arrives in bookstores the same night that Tim Burton's adaption of Charlie and the Chocolate Factory hits movie theaters. The Half-Blood Prince goes on sale at 12:01am Saturday morning, with more hype than the previous five Potter books combined. Scholastic has ordered a record-setting initial print run of 10.3 million copies, and Barnes & Noble plans to celebrate the release with Potter gatherings at more than 670 of its outlets. Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix sold more than 5 million copies, making over $150 million dollars in its first 24 hours. That's a lot of allowance money. Charlie will also see competition from the R-rated adult comedy Wedding Crashers.
There's really no way Charlie can beat the book release, that's not in question. What is in question, is how many kids will be home with the book instead of hitting the theaters opening weekend?
